Fed health cuts not reform: Andrews

Cutting money out of hospitals and calling it "reform" won't cut it with Victorians, Premier Daniel Andrews says.

He says any move to strip more federal money out of Victoria's health system would be fought hard at the Commonwealth Of Australian Governments meeting in July.

"Tony Abbott said no cuts to health before the election and now he wants patients, and it would seem state governments, to pay for his lie," Mr Andrews said on Tuesday.

Mr Andrews said he would sit down with Prime Minister Tony Abbott in Sydney in July, but had not spoken to him recently about health funding.

"If you cut health, you hurt patients. That's not reform," he said.

The premier said there were always savings to be found within a health system, but those savings had to be reinvested.

"I'm up for a conversation about reform," he said.

"There are things we can do to be a more efficient health system, a more efficient education system. But you won't do more with less."
