Fatal Vic crash driver 'admitted drug use'

A driver charged with killing two of his passengers when he crashed a stolen car in Melbourne allegedly admitted to using ice, cannabis and alcohol beforehand.

Dylan Cassidy, 20, is accused of dangerous driving causing the deaths of 18-year-old Jordana Kirkwood-Dudas and a 16-year-old boy, whose name was removed from documents released by the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Cassidy is accused of stealing the Holden Commodore from a Frankston home before crashing at speed while trying to overtake other traffic at Cranbourne on August 11 last year.

After the crash, court documents say Cassidy crawled out of the driver's window and was restrained by passers-by when he tried to flee.

Meanwhile, Ms Kirkwood-Dudas and the 16-year-old boy died at the scene. Another of Cassidy's passengers was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and a fourth with minor injuries.

Cassidy allegedly told police he had been driving while using ice and cannabis and had also consumed alcohol.

He faces 28 charges including unlicensed and drug driving, stealing a car, culpable and dangerous driving causing death, negligently causing serious injury and committing an offence while on bail.

Cassidy appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday via video link, with his lawyer saying he would consider an offer made by prosecutors.

The young man remains in custody and is due back in court on March 18.
