Grass fire under control in Victoria.

Firefighters have saved two houses in the path of a fast moving grass fire in regional Victoria.

The fire in Wahgunyah, in the state's north, has now been brought under control.

Two water bombing aircraft and 14 fire trucks were on scene to control the blaze, which started just before midday on Thursday.

Firefighters defended two houses and brought the fire under control at 1.15pm.

A watch and act warning was earlier issued as the fire headed toward the Wahgunyah township, producing a large amount of smoke.
