Falcon chicks’ birth live-streamed to thousands from Melbourne

A web cam has captured the world's fastest hunter hatching three white fluffballs on the roof of a Melbourne office building.

Thousands tuned in to watch a live-stream of the Peregrine falcon delivering the chicks on the 36th floor of a Collins Street skyscraper yesterday morning.

Birdwatchers are now waiting intently to see if the falcon's fourth egg will hatch.

The newborn chicks will cry for their mother - who can reach speeds of up to 300km/hr - to deliver food over the next five to six weeks, before being forced out of their nest.

It's believed the same falcon’s hatchlings died in the Collins Street nesting box last year, with fears they may have eaten a poisoned pigeon.

The box was installed on the roof of 367 Collins Street 25 years ago by Dr Victor Hurley.
