Elderly pedestrian dies after Vic crash

An elderly pedestrian has died in hospital after being hit by a car in Melbourne.

The 85-year-old woman was hit at a pedestrian crossing in Moonee Ponds on Saturday, shortly before 6.30am.

She was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she died from her injuries on Wednesday.

The driver, a 46-year-old Pascoe Vale man, has been interviewed by police and released pending further inquiries.

Victoria's road toll is now 209 compared to 195 at this time last year.
