Man dies after stolen car crashes in Vic

A Victorian man is dead after the stolen car he was driving rolled and crashed into a tree.

Highway Patrol sergeant John Morgan said the driver lost control of the car in Badger Creek, near Healesville, about 5am on Monday and died at the scene.

"Speed was the likely cause of the crash," Sgt Morgan told AAP on Monday.

A witness, who did not want to be named, said the man's body was found metres from the car.

The Healesville man's family is yet to be notified of his death.

The Victorian road toll now stands at 139, which is 17 more than for the same period last year.
