Melb mayor outlines priorities for city

Re-elected Lord Mayor Robert Doyle says he'll strive to maintain Melbourne's lauded liveability while tackling the city's homeless crisis as a matter of priority.

Mr Doyle, who's "humbled and honoured" to be returned after receiving 44.62 per cent of first preference votes with deputy Arron Wood, says there's no simple solution to the city's biggest social problem, but he will move quickly to address it as a number one issue.

"Despite our best endeavours, it doesn't seem to be getting any better," he told reporters in Melbourne on Sunday.

Mr Doyle said the City of Melbourne should play a co-ordinating role with police, health and housing services to address homelessness on a case-by-case basis.

People who slept rough were often known to multiple providers, but information wasn't being shared.

"We've got to find ways of making it happen, so we co-ordinate services for individuals a whole lot better," Mr Doyle said.

Other items on the council's agenda include the redevelopment of the Queen Victoria Market, job creation, revitalisation of lacklustre CBD streets and city safety, with more CCTV cameras to be installed.

Mr Doyle won the election with a four per cent swing in the primary vote.

He says it's too soon to say if he will run for a fourth term.
