Doctors support Melbourne injecting room

Medical specialists believe a safe injecting room in Melbourne will help save lives and reduce the risk for locals who have to step over discarded needles.

The Royal Australian College of Physicians said opening a medically-supervised facility in suburban Richmond would also minimise infection.

Submissions close on Thursday for a Victorian parliamentary inquiry into a pilot medically supervised injecting centre.
