Troubled Vic killer to undergo treatment

A privileged but troubled man who stabbed a homeless man to death will be transferred to a psychiatric hospital after two years in prison.

Easton George Woodhead, 21, will spend up to 25 years in Victoria's maximum security psychiatric facility to undergo supervised treatment after he was found not guilty of murder due to mental impairment.

A Victorian Supreme Court jury last year found he was not criminally responsible for the killing of Morgan Wayne "Mouse" Perry on January 4, 2014.

The former elite private school student has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

During the trial, the jury heard Woodhead believed he could make himself immortal by injecting printer ink into his veins.

At times he thought he was God, that he had a connection to the devil, and that he could receive messages through his X-Box.

After several hours of playing video games and smoking marijuana on January 4, Woodhead went to an encampment where Mr Perry lived because he believed Mr Perry had stolen his motorbike.

He told Mr Perry he had just discovered his father was a werewolf, then stabbed Mr Perry with such ferocity he almost severed his hand.

The 42-year-old was rushed to The Alfred Hospital where he died from blood loss caused by multiple stab wounds.

In making the orders on Tuesday, Victorian Supreme Court Justice Jane Dixon said Woodhead's treatment and rehabilitation needs were complex.

It was an unfortunate state of affairs that Woodhead had been kept in prison despite being found not criminally responsible for Mr Perry's death, she said.

Woodhead's father Mark Woodhead said in a statement to the court Woodhead regularly expresses deep remorse for Mr Perry's death now that his mental health has stabilised.

Justice Dixon said Woodhead's extended family stands ready to support him and will do everything possible to assist him.
