Date set to find new Melbourne lord mayor

Powered by

Melburnians will have to wait until mid-May to vote for a new lord mayor after the resignation of Robert Doyle amid sexual misconduct allegations.

Local Government Minister Martin Pakula this afternoon announced a May 12 by-election for the position.

Mr Doyle strenuously denies the claims of three women who allege sexual harassment and indecent assault.

The 64-year-old resigned the post in early February from hospital where he is suffering stress-related illness.
