Cyclist, 70, dies after Melbourne crash

A 70-year-old cyclist has died in hospital after colliding with a car in Melbourne.

The crash happened when the cyclist left a footpath in Malvern East and got onto Dandenong Road on Wednesday morning.

He was taken to the Alfred Hospital with life-threatening injuries and but later died.

The 33-year-old driver wasn't injured and she is assisting police.

The man's death brings this year's provisional state road toll to 23, two more than at the same time last year.
