HIGHLIGHTS OF VICTORIA'S LATEST CRIME STATISTICS:

* Overall crime has dropped by 0.6 per cent during the 2016-17 financial year, reflecting the first decrease in six years

ON THE RISE

* Aggravated burglaries (12.2 per cent)

* Robberies (10 per cent)

* Homicide (9.9 per cent)

* Sexual assaults (6.5 per cent)

* Common assaults (four per cent)

DECREASES:

* Arson (30 per cent)

* Drug dealing and trafficking (14.5 per cent)

* Family violence incidents (3.3 per cent)
