Court alternative sought for abuse victims

The Victorian government is considering how victims of institutional child abuse can get justice without going through the courts.

Public comment is being sought on a consultation paper for a redress scheme, which was one of the recommendations of the parliament's Betrayal of Trust report.

"Victims have often spoken about the trauma associated with going to court, and this scheme will provide them with an alternative approach to obtain justice without pursuing civil litigation," Attorney-General Martin Pakula said.
