Six years after she was thrown from Melbourne's West Gate Bridge, Darcey Freeman's tragic death will be examined by a coroner.

The four-year-old was thrown from the bridge by her father, Arthur Phillip Freeman, in January 2009.

He was jailed for life for Darcey's murder, with a 32-year minimum term, in 2011.

Darcey's mother, Peta Barnes, last year came to a legal settlement with VicRoads after arguing the road authority ignored advice to install safety barriers on the bridge.

State Coroner Ian Gray will hear the directions hearing at 2pm (AEDT) on Thursday.
