Cops watch for bad behaviour at Caulfield

Victoria Police are hoping to nip in the bud any anti-social, booze-fuelled behaviour at today's Caulfield Cup.

They've warned the thousands expected at the Melbourne horse racing event that they will have a visible presence and will not tolerate "unruly" behaviour.

Officers will patrol in and around the Caulfield Racecourse with a focus on the responsible service of alcohol, public order and road safety," Inspector Drew Morgan said.

Racegoers should plan their journey to and from the event and use public transport or a designated driver if they're planning to drink, he said.

"Our message to the small minority of punters who choose to do the wrong thing is that unruly, offensive and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated," Insp Morgan said.

Transit police and Protective Services Officers will patrol the public transport network to and from the venue.
