'Commuter' clown terrifies Melbourne train passengers

A person wearing a clown mask has frightened Melbourne train passengers over the weekend after reportedly silently “staring down” several commuters.

Dressed in a suit and carrying a suitcase, the clown reportedly walked through Southern Cross Station on Saturday, according to the Herald Sun.

The clown appears to be wearing a mask closely resembling those worn by bank robbers in the opening scene of 2008 Batman film The Dark Knight.

One witness told the ABC that it was like being in a “horror movie”.

“It was a very scary face. All sorts of things are running through your mind,” she said.

“He slowly walked along the aisle until he got to the driver’s door, stood, stopped, turned around and just watched all of us – stared us all down,” she said.

It is unknown whether anybody spoke to the clown or asked for the mask to be removed, however bystanders said they didn’t witness anybody approach the clown.

The incident comes in the same week news broke of the forthcoming film remake of arguably the most evil clown in cinematic history.

Pennywise, the famous villain from Stephen King’s 1986 novel It, will be played by actor Will Poulter in a two-part Hollywood remake.

Tim Curry played the character in the 1990 original film of the same name.
