Families of men assaulted outside Crown Casino ‘furious’ after alleged offenders granted bail

The families of three men violently assaulted outside Melbourne’s Crown Casino have said they are furious the alleged offenders were bailed.

Jason Cohen, his cousin Jordan Cohen and friend Kevin McCarry were waiting for a taxi outside the Casino when they were targeted by two other men just before 10pm yesterday.

Mr Cohen, 29, was stabbed in the chest and remains in intensive care, while Mr McCarry remains the Alfred Hospital with bleeding to his brain.

The younger Mr Cohen sustained a concussion in the incident.

The men claim an argument began when they began talking to a taxi driver at the Whiteman Street rank, but that the alleged violence was unprovoked.

The pair of alleged offenders, aged 46 and 44 and both from Oakleigh South, were charged with intentionally causing injury and recklessly causing injury, while the 44-year-old has also been charged with possessing a controlled weapon.

They were bailed by police this morning to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court at a later date.

Mr Cohen’s father, James Cohen, told 9NEWS he was “disgusted” the alleged offenders were bailed.

“I think the law's too lenient …it's got to be tougher,” he said.

The incident comes as Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews assured that tougher reforms for violence are on the way.

“We've said we are up to the task of making those important reforms and that's exactly what you'll see,” Mr Andrews said
