Players of Nintendo's augmented reality game Pokemon Go are being warned to take their rubbish with them or face hefty fines.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D'Ambrosio has urged the public to report people caught littering as part of Keep Australia Beautiful Week.

Hundreds of Pokemon Go players were chased off a Victorian golf course by security for causing wear and tear, vandalism and damage to bunkers on Saturday.

Fines for littering range from $311 for pieces of rubbish to a whopping $622 if caught throwing a lit cigarette from a vehicle.

More than 15,000 people were caught littering and issued with infringement notices during the last financial year.
