Police hunt trio of suspects after multiple bricks hurled into traffic in Melbourne

Police are looking for three suspects after multiple cars were damaged and a woman was injured when bricks were thrown from an overpass in Melbourne on Saturday.

Multiple drivers called triple zero with reports a trio of youths were seen hurling bricks onto traffic on the Princes Highway in Springvale about 1am on Saturday.

Five cars travelling about 80km/h were damaged when large bricks hit their windscreens, with two vehicles needing to be towed from the scene.

A woman in one car also needed treatment after she got glass fragments in her eye.

Acting Detective Sergeant Ashley Jung said the injured woman is "quite traumatised" following the ordeal.

"She has fears about driving again," he said.

"She was very lucky, the rock, which was the size of a brick, shattered her windscreen."

Jung said it was appalling behaviour that would not be tolerated.

Police have shared CCTV footage of three people of interest.

The exact ages of those involved are yet to be determined.

"Police cannot express enough concern about how dangerous actions like this are and it extremely fortunate nobody has received significant injuries," Jung added.

He also described the offending as targeted.

"Someone going somewhere to pick bricks up and climbing up onto the overpass, it's pretty specific and targeted," he added.

A number of vehicles also sustained punctured tyres from the brick debris.

"I strongly urge those responsible to come forward, take responsibility for their actions, and show some compassion for the person who was injured," Detective Senior Constable Simon Jacobs said earlier.

Nobody has been arrested so far.
