Breakthrough in Victoria burnt car murder

Police have made a breakthrough in the murder of Thomas O'Connell, whose body was found in a burnt-out car in Victoria.

Following an appeal for information on Monday, police said they've identified a car that they think will lead them to the person responsible for the murder.

Detectives believe a grey 2008 Honda Civic 4-door sedan travelled behind the deceased's car north on the Hume Freeway before it was set alight. 

Mr O'Connell, 32, of Mernda, was found dead inside a charred car just off the Hume Freeway in Wandong on February 5.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the grey Honda Civic 4-door sedan travelling on the Hume Freeway in the Wallan and or Wandong area between 3-4am on February, Friday 5.
