Five-year-old Victorian boy killed by car 'driven by mum'

A five-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car in regional Victoria, and the driver is understood to be his mother.

The boy was walking along Red Cliffs Avenue in Koorlong when he was hit by the car about 6pm.

"The boy died at the scene, and it's believed the boy's mother was driving the car at the time," according to a Victoria Police statement.

A 36-year-old Koorlong woman is assisting investigators.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

The boy's death takes Victoria's road toll to 64 lives lost in 2015, compared to 59 at the same time last year.
