Bourke St accused brother on fresh charges

The younger brother of accused Bourke St killer Dimitrious Gargasoulas has made an unexpected appearance in a Melbourne court charged with eight new offences.

Angelo Gargasoulas, 26, has been charged with possessing a controlled weapon, possessing the drug ice, assault with a knife, unlawful assault, trespass and trespass with intent to assault.

He was also charged with damaging a mobile phone and a glass door worth $600 combined.

The new charges were laid on Saturday after he was already jailed in March this year for a series of assaults on loved ones and robbing a taxi driver of cash and his lunch.

At the time, he was sentenced to two months' jail and given an 18-month community corrections order after pleading guilty to 13 offences between May 2015 and July 2016.

The court heard at that time he had assaulted his mother during an ice-fuelled rage in the months leading up to the Bourke Street tragedy in January this year.

It was alleged he threw a thermos flask at his mother's face after she failed to make her son a toasted sandwich quickly enough.

It was also alleged he bludgeoned his boyfriend with the butt of a box cutter.

Six people died and 31 were hospitalised when his older brother Dimitrious allegedly mowed down pedestrians in the Melbourne CBD on January 20.

On Saturday afternoon in the Melbourne Magistrates Court, Angelo made no application for bail.

He was remanded in custody to reappear on July 19 for a filing hearing.
