Body found in house in regional Victoria

The homicide squad is investigating after a body was found following a small fire at a house in regional Victoria.

Emergency crews were called to the Kenworthy Place property in Ballarat about 8am and discovered the fire.

It was extinguished and a search uncovered the deceased person inside.

The deceased is yet to be formally identified and the cause of death remains unknown.

Homicide detectives are on the way to the scene, with the death being treated as suspicious at this stage.

A report will now be prepared for the Coroner.
