A body has been found in a burnt-out bungalow in southeast Melbourne.

It was discovered at the Cheltenham property shortly after 6pm on Monday, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade said.

The cause of the fire remains unclear and the person is yet to be identified.

Earlier in the day, a woman suffered critical injuries in an unrelated house fire in the Geelong suburb of Grovedale.

She was flown to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne with burns to her arms, back and abdomen, according to Ambulance Victoria.

A man also aged in his 20s was taken to hospital in Geelong for smoke inhalation and a woman in her 30s was assessed at the scene.
