Two Victorian tobacco stores damaged after 'suspicious' fire and ram raid

Detectives will investigate whether two incidents targetting tobacco stores in regional Victoria overnight are linked to a string of recent arson attacks in Melbourne.

Emergency services were first called to reports of a fire at a tobacco store at the intersection of Little Bridge Street and Peel Street in Bakery Hill about 6.15am.

The business along with two surrounding buildings were destroyed by the fire.

There were no injuries reported.

Another tobacco store was targeted less than 1km away a short time later.

Police said a vehicle reversed into the front entrance of the store before the driver fled the scene.

Two vehicles were found burnt out in Queen Street South, Ballarat and Scott Parade in Ballarat East.

Police believe the incidents are linked and are treating it as a targeted attack.
