Aspendale: Man dies at Melbourne beach

A kite-surfer aged in his 50s has died at a beach in Melbourne’s south-east this afternoon.

9News understands the man was kite-surfing in the waters off Aspendale Beach when he was seen struggling about 3.30pm.

A Good Samaritan helped pull the victim to the shore, but he was unresponsive.

Police are now awaiting the results of a post-mortem to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, a spokeswoman for Victoria Police said in a statement this afternoon.

The incident comes after seven people drowned in Victoria since Christmas Eve.

Lifesaving Victoria continue to urge people to take care when swimming.
