Artist gives bank notes an ocker facelift

The old faces on Australia's currency are being replaced by Dame Edna, Kath and Kim, and Alf Stewart from Home and Away.

Well, not really. But Melbourne artist Aaron Tyler has given our series of plasticky notes a pop culture facelift in the name of art.

Their clear corner windows have also been replaced with the likes of a Victoria Bitter logo, a prawn and a mining truck.

If you whip out a $20 note, you'll even find a picture of morning TV larrikin Karl Stefanovic.

Tyler reckons the faces on our currency should be recognisable to a new generation.

The existing images were relevant once but don't strike a chord with modern Australia, he says on his website.

"The time is right for a facelift. The time is right for STRAYA CASH."

Ned Kelly, The Wiggles and Pharlap feature on his $10 note and you'll see Kath and Kim and a jar of Vegemite on the $20.

But it's hard to go past the ocker vibe on the $100 note with a mullet-wearing John Farnham and crocodile hunter Steve Irwin on one side and Alf Stewart and a plate of lamingtons on the other.

Strewth, that's a flamin' good idea.
