Armed men hold up Melbourne jewellery shop

A group of men has held up a Melbourne jewellery store, striking a staff member on the head with a gun.

The store on Toorak Road, Toorak, was robbed just before 1pm on Saturday by about four males.

Police say a male staff member was struck on the head with the butt of a firearm and he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

It is unknown at this stage what was stolen.

The males, described as being of African appearance, fled in a vehicle with a fifth male driving and police gave chase but the pursuit was terminated a short time later.

The heist comes after another daylight robbery on Thursday at a jewellery store in Canterbury where the offenders were armed with sledgehammers and axes.

Two teenagers, aged 18 and 17, have been charged over that incident.
