Driver charged after two die in Mornington Peninsula minibus crash

A disqualified driver has been charged after he was allegedly driving a stolen car and high on the drug ice when he crashed into a minibus on the Victorian Mornington Peninsula on Wednesday, killing two.

Michael Patrick Trueman, 23, told a Victorian court he was on his way to put flowers on his brother's grave when he collided with a bus carrying dementia patients who were on a day trip to the beach.

"I never meant to hurt anybody or do anything wrong," he said.

An 88-year-old woman died at the scene, and seven others were injured.

A 91-year-old woman died a day later at The Alfred Hospital after sustaining facial, chest and leg injuries in the collision.

The driver has been charged with two counts of culpable driving, two counts of dangerous driving causing death, and one count each of theft, reckless conduct endangering life, and driving while disqualified.

A drug test after the crash allegedly came back positive for ice.

He will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today.
