Alleged Vic shooter was 'attacked': lawyer

A man charged with murder and attempted murder after a double shooting at a Melbourne car shop was attacked by the men he allegedly shot, his lawyer says.

Ahmed El-Chakik, 40, appeared before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with murdering Edmund Shabani and the attempted murder of Elvis Shabani, who were shot outside a Ravenhall car shop a day earlier.

"My client has suffered some injuries when he was set upon by the two alleged victims in this matter," his lawyer George Balot said.

Mr Balot said El-Chakik had "abrasions to his face and bruises to his upper torso, jaw and his forehead".

"I would ask that he be seen by medical practitioners," he said.

Mr Balot said his client suffered from anxiety and panic attacks and had experienced pains in his chest before coming to court on Saturday.

El-Chakik was arrested not long after the shooting on Westwood Drive at Ravenhall on Friday afternoon.

The injured men were taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital, where Edmund Shabani died.

His brother Elvis remains in hospital in a stable but serious with gunshot injuries to his lower body.

El Chakik has been remanded in custody and his case will return to court on Wednesday.
