Case of alleged Vic killer mum adjourned

A Melbourne mother who allegedly murdered three of her children by driving into a lake is expected to make a bid for bail.

Mother-of-seven Akon Guode is charged with murdering her one-year-old son Bol and twins Hanger and her brother Madit, four, who drowned when her car crashed into Lake Gladman on April 8 last year.

The 37-year-old is also charged with attempting to murder her six-year-old daughter Alual, who survived after being pulled from the water in Wyndham Vale.

Guode's pre-trial hearing was adjourned on Wednesday, because a witness is overseas.

Her barrister Julian McMahon foreshadowed a bail application when the matter returns to the Melbourne Magistrates Court in a couple of weeks.

The court has been told Guode suffered headaches and dizzy spells that had affected her driving in the year leading up to the incident.

One of the paramedics who took her to hospital, Dave Hammond, said she asked if her children were "okay" and repeatedly said she was dizzy after the crash.

The father of the three dead children and Alual, Joseph Manyang, believes it was an accident and says he continues to visit Guode in prison.

Eye witness Alexandra Colston-Ing says Guode's car seemed to drive deliberately into the lake.

"They had to fully mount the kerb, drive along a grass area," she told a Triple-0 operator shortly after the crash.

"I saw them just drive full bolt straight into the water."

Victoria Police collision investigator and civil engineer Detective Senior Constable Robert Hay examined the scene and conducted several re-enactments with a similar vehicle.

"From the drive-throughs of the collision scene, it is my opinion that the car could not and did not just drift off the roadway," he said in a report tendered to Guode's committal hearing.

The hearing is due to resume on July 19.
