All poker machines in Victoria now carry technology allowing gamblers to set a limit on how much they can lose or how long they intend to play.

The technology temporarily locks a poker machine when a user-set limit is reached, but the pre-commitment scheme is voluntary and pokies players must opt in.

The state government announced the state-wide rollout of its "Your Play" pre-commitment scheme on Tuesday, as it also released a study showing Victoria has 35,000 problem gamblers and has had no improvement in this number from 2006 to 2014.
