The temporary trial of all-night public transport on weekends in Melbourne has been extended an additional six months.

Premier Daniel Andrews was joined alongside public transport minister Jacinta Allan this morning to announce the extension of night trains, trams, buses and regional coaches.

The continuation of the six-month trial will allow a full assessment on the success of the night program.

According to the state government, an average of 35,000 people use the overnight service.

Of those, 20 percent are shift-workers.

The overnight network includes 300 train services, 250 tram services and around 500 bus services.
