Accused Vic hit-run killer back in court

A Melbourne man accused of a hit-and-run crash that killed a teenage pedestrian and left another with brain damage will face court to find out whether he should stand trial.

Steven Vasilevski, 34, is returning to the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday for the second day of a committal hearing on 11 offences after two teens were hit by a car in Delahey in 2015.

Vasilevski is accused of running a red light and hitting Anthony Nguyen and Jasmine Vuong, both then 17, at a pedestrian crossing shortly before midnight on January 27 last year.

Mr Nguyen died a day later after his life support was switched off, while Ms Vuong suffered a serious brain injury.

Vasilevski has been charged with 11 offences, including dangerous driving causing serious injury, failing to stop, and failing to render assistance.

Ms Vuong, now 18, told the committal hearing on Thursday she does not remember the crash.

The student says her last memory of that night is waiting to cross the street with Mr Nguyen.

The lead police investigator is due to give evidence on Friday.
