Vic woman denies she murdered her partner

A woman has told a court she "never murdered" her partner who died of burns he sustained in a fire at a home in regional Victoria.

Kate Stone, 39, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with murdering Darren Reid, 45, in Long Gully in Bendigo.

Mr Reid suffered burns in a fire at a home in Long Gully that started just before midnight on December 18.

He later died after being airlifted to a Melbourne hospital.

"I never murdered my husband," Stone said as she was leaving the courtroom on Wednesday.

Members of Stone's family were there to support her in court and they too insisted she was innocent.

"She didn't do this," one family member said in court.

"She's not going to survive in there (jail)."

Outside court, Stone's family said she had five children with Mr Reid, who they said also went by the last name Auditori.

Magistrate Tim Bourke remanded Stone in custody to appear for a committal mention in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on May 24.
