Vic school testing to go online

Testing in Victorian schools is set to move online after the Victorian government said it had started work on a new assessment platform.

Education Minister Martin Dixon says there is already a host of assessments available online, but there are currently "holes" in the process.

"What we aim to do is bring them all to one portal so they're a one-stop-shop for teachers," Mr Dixon told Fairfax Radio.

"We are already in a world where digital technology is an integral part of Victorian classrooms, so the development of this platform is a logical step," Mr Dixon said in a statement.

He said the "one-stop-shop" for testing could be used from the very early maternal and child-health checks through to the secondary school VCE.

The Department of Education has released a tender for the development of the system, which would bring together existing technology rather than being built from the ground up.

Responses are due early in 2014.

Mr Dixon said the integrated testing system would give teachers better information on where their students are having difficulty.
