Police storm Rebels bikie clubhouses across Victoria, make multiple arrests

A number of people have been arrested in a series of pre-dawn raids on an outlawed motorcycle gang police believe is linked to the murder of a man in a suspected home invasion on Australia Day.
Four men have already been charged with the murder of Michael Sleiman, 20, who died after 15 people allegedly stormed a Deer Park house in the city's west on January 26 and started a fight.
They remain in custody and are due to reappear in court in November.
Homicide detectives investigating Mr Sleiman's death believe those men are associated with or are members of the Rebels motorcycle club.
Police conducted 23 raids at 6am on today in Melbourne, Geelong and Traralgon.
Assistant Commissioner Stephen Fontana said Mr Sleiman was not linked to motorcycle gangs.
"We do not see the death of this young man (Sleiman) as bikie v bikie," he said.
Mr Fontana said it appeared members of the Rebels and their associates used their standing as an outlawed motorcycle gang against the public.
"This is about community safety. There is no place in our society for those that think they can seek their own justice," he said.
The raids included seven Rebels clubhouses at Sunshine, Dandenong South, North Geelong, Kilsyth, Sunbury, Travencore and Pakenham and private properties linked to Rebels members.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman was unable to confirm how many people had been arrested.
