Vic police chase fast, furious convoy

Drivers using two-way radios have raced in convoy along a busy Victorian highway, in the style of cult street racing film The Fast and The Furious.

One man is expected to be charged on summons with dangerous driving and other traffic offences over the incident, in which police say four cars and up to six motorcycles sped along the Western Highway between Beaufort and Ararat on Saturday evening.

The convoy overtook other vehicles on the left and over double lines while travelling at high speed, police say.

The cars included a blue Skoda station wagon, a black 2008 Jeep Wrangler, a blue Mini Cooper and a green Volkswagen Jetta sedan.

Police intercepted the Skoda driver, a 26-year-old Melbourne man.

"Investigators were told that the drivers of these vehicles were communicating with each other with portable two-way radios, telling each of the drivers when to overtake and if there were any police in the area," police spokeswoman Sergeant Creina O'Grady said.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
