Vic police blitz catches 19 drink-drivers

Nineteen drink-drivers have been nabbed and three cars impounded, after a weekend random breath testing blitz in Melbourne.

Police conducted the crackdown in St Kilda on Friday and Saturday nights with two drivers refusing a breath test.

A 30-year-old recidivist drink driver, on a four-year disqualification, ran from police after she was pulled over at a testing site.

The St Kilda East woman was caught and is expected to be charged on summons for refusing a breath test and driving while her licence was disqualified. Her car was impounded.

A 25-year-old McKinnon man, a recidivist suspended driver, blew a reading of 0.168 and had his boss's Porsche impounded.

Another vehicle was impounded after the driver did a burn-out in front of six police at the breath testing site on Fitzroy street.

Prahran Highway Patrol Acting Senior Sergeant Helen Poke said the high blood alcohol readings from drivers were disappointing.

"These people seem to think they won't be intercepted in the small hours of the morning, especially on back roads," she said.
