Vic man dies after alleged assault

A man has died following an alleged assault in Victoria's far east.

Police say a 48-year-old man had been at a property in Toorloo Arm, near Lakes Entrance, for most of the day on Tuesday with a group of people before the alleged assault that evening.

The man, a local, died at the scene.

A 56-year-old man is assisting homicide detectives.
