Vic man attacked in home invasion

A man was attacked after waking up to find armed burglars ransacking his Victorian home.

The 47-year-old man was asleep when two male thieves wearing balaclavas and armed with guns and bats broke into his home at Gisborne, northwest of Melbourne, early on Friday morning.

He confronted the robbers, who demanded cash as they plundered his home.

The thieves left with electrical items.

The resident was assaulted during the encounter and was later taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with injuries.

A 46-year-old woman who also lives at the house was not hurt.
