Vic man admits train sex assaults

A Victorian man sexually assaulted women on trains after offering to read their palms.

Ajay Chopra, 41, approached the women offering to read their palm then indecently assaulted them.

Chopra, of Bendigo, pleaded guilty on Thursday to assaulting three women and attempting to assault two others between February and October 2011.

At the time he was catching the V/Line train from Bendigo to Melbourne for work.

Chopra's barrister applied for a suppression order in order to prevent the reporting of the case, saying his client was embarrassed by the charges.

But Victorian County Court Judge Gerard Mullaly said personal humiliation was not grounds for a media ban and rejected the application.

Chopra was granted bail but is barred from riding V/Line trains and must report weekly to Bendigo police station.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault and two counts of attempted indecent assault.

Chopra will reappear in court for a plea hearing in June.
