Vic Labor commits to $110m bridge upgrade

Victorian Labor will spend $110 million to duplicate the Chandler Highway Bridge if elected in November.

Opposition leader Daniel Andrews said plans are "ready to go" and work on the Kew bridge would begin early in 2015, should Labor win the upcoming state election.

The heritage listed railway bridge will stay and be incorporated into the plan, Mr Andrews said.

"For too long too many cars have been congested, there's been too many accidents, too much danger here at the Chandler Bridge," Mr Andrews told reporters on Sunday.

"That's why a Labor government will duplicate this bridge."

Mr Andrews said it would be completed in the first term.
