Vic killer loses High Court appeal bid

A Melbourne man who slit his neighbour's throat during a brawl has failed in his bid to appeal against his murder conviction in the High Court.

Rowan Biram, 39, had ventured out of his Heidelberg West home in November 2009 to investigate a noisy party when he had his throat cut.

Tjay Tunja, 28, was found guilty of his murder in a Victorian Supreme Court trial, a verdict later upheld in the state's Court of Appeal.

The High Court on Friday rejected Tunja's application for leave to appeal his conviction, after his lawyers argued there had been a miscarriage of justice.

Justice Virginia Bell said there were insufficient prospects of changing the Court of Appeal's decision.

Tunja, of Rosebud West, is serving a 24-year prison term, with a non-parole period of 19 years.
