Vic govt pushes for federal abuse response

The Victorian government says it wants a signal from the federal government on how it will respond to a recommendation for a national child sexual abuse redress scheme.

Victorian Attorney-General Martin Pakula welcomed the release of recommendations, including a multi-billion dollar redress scheme, by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, saying it would help his government's ongoing response to its own abuse inquiry.

"We will be seeking an indication from the Commonwealth as to how it intends to respond to the recommendations made by the Royal Commission, in particular whether it intends to establish and participate in a single national redress scheme," Mr Pakula said.
