Vic firefighters contain Mallee fire

Authorities say they've worked to contain several large bushfires in Victoria's northwest, but some are still burning.

In the Mallee region, fire has burnt through 90,000 hectares in national parks and reserves with firefighters making significant progress.

Mildura incident controller Bob Brinkman said the priority was to strengthen containment lines around the fires.

"Our crews are working hard to make the most of favourable weather conditions and have now contained several fires," Mr Brinkman said.

Several fires at Rocket Lake and Bronzewing Flora and Fauna Reserve have been contained.

New fires along the eastern and western flanks of Wyperfeld National Park and Lake Albacutya will also be managed.

About 200 firefighters, 50 trucks and eight aircraft are at the scene.

Fire warnings for the Mallee have been downgraded, but authorities are warning people in the area to stay informed and alert.

Wyperfeld National Park, Lake Albacutya, Big Desert Wilderness Park and Murray-Sunset National Park remain closed to the public.

A community fire information meeting will be held at the Walpeup Public Hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm (AEDT).
