'Chilling': minister on Anzac terror plot

Justice Minister Michael Keenan is concerned about Anzac Day services being a possible target for terror attacks following the arrest of a Sydney teenager.

He's described as "chilling" an alleged plot by the 16-year-old from Sydney who is facing charges of planning and preparing an attack to coincide with Anzac Day.

"It's very disturbing when Australians are out there commemorating what is a very important national day for us, some people would think that's an appropriate time to target those services - I'm very worried about that," Mr Keenan said on Monday.

It's the second year in a row a teenager has been arrested and accused of planning Anzac Day attacks.

A 19-year-old was arrested last year accused of plotting an Anzac Day terror attack in Melbourne that would have included beheading a police officer.

Mr Keenan said it was part of an emerging trend where increasingly younger people were being lured towards extremism.

However, Australians should take comfort authorities had been effective in preventing possible attacks.

Mr Keenan urged anyone reconsidering attending Anzac Day events to show up.

"These commemorations are a very important part of our national life."
