Balfours Bakery release new vegan range

They are known for their meat pies but now Balfours Bakery has launched a new range of products catering to vegan tastes.

Curried lentil and potato pies, kale and leek pies and roast vegetable pasties are among the four vegan friendly products set to be sold to South Australian customers.

The SA owned and operated bakery says it is the nation's first mass-produced baked goods manufacturer to release vegan options.

"Balfours Bakery is adored for its square pie, footy pie and giant sausage roll but as consumers' expectations and tastes change, we need to also," Balfours Bakery’s Erik de Roos told 9News.

The company has also launched a new range of healthier pies, pasties and sausage rolls that come with a 3.5 star health rating, making them suitable for school canteens.

The Better Bite products have less fat, more protein and more fibre compared to the traditional range.

"...we think it will be well-received by both our longstanding customers and the upcoming generations," Mr de Roos said.

The new options have been released as the bakery celebrates its 165th anniversary.
