Vandals steal ANZAC letters from commemorative site

Vandals have stolen the letters that spell the word ANZAC from the commemorative site at the North Beach in Turkey.
It follows similar thefts of metal plaques across the Gallipoli Peninsula and thefts from Turkish vendors’ stalls located at Chunuk Bair, the Department of Vetern Affairs said.
Thefts of metal products for re-sale are not uncommon in Turkey, although similar vandalism has not occurred in the past.
The Australian government is working to replace the letters and ensure they cannot be removed again.
Both Australian and Turkish authorities are investigating.
Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.
