Ute crashes into elderly woman’s Melbourne home

An 81-year-old woman narrowly avoided injury when a ute crashed through her living room in Melbourne’s south-east this morning.

Maureen Dubois was asleep when the crash happened about 4.40am AEDT, and her son said it was “miraculous” that she was not hurt.

“There was just one room separating her from the lounge room, so she’s very, very lucky,” John Dubois said.

“She’s lived here 30 years and [the house] means a lot to her because she’s somebody who likes her privacy a lot.”

CCTV captured the ute turning right in Beresford Road from Victoria Road, before police allege it then swiped a parked car and ploughed into Ms Dubios’ home.

The ute’s registered owner, who did not wish to be identified, told 9NEWS his car had been stolen the night before, however Victoria Police Sergeant Paul Phillips said the car was “not listed stolen at this time”.

Sgt Phillips said neighbours saw a man leaving the scene, and the matter is under investigation.

No arrests have yet been made.
